I started this business from a foundation of being a therapist using colour, homeopath and medium. I recognise and have been witness to the health and welfare benefits from being close to and immersed in colour. I love textiles with their richness and texture, and have discovered many different types on my travels to different countries.
I decided to start my business The Textile Treasury in 2015, to enable people to have access to affordable, luxurious goods that will enhance their well being and feel good factor.
I have met different traders selling fabrics and textiles, and have selected Fairtrade, ethnically sourced items as part of my ethos and ethical foundation. I aim to ensure that the artisan traders I trade with are all morally bound and committed to Fairtrade.
I have a selection of traders providing beautiful goods of high quality that will delight and enthral my customers. I have items from Morocco - Sabre silk (Aloe Vera plant silk), Mongolia - Mongolian Yak wool, Nepal - beautiful hand made felt goods and hareem pants etc, Italy - 100% Italian linen clothing and leather bags etc. Canada - Solemate socks - life is too boring for matching socks.
My repertoire of exciting and beautiful goods will be continually changing, as I find other goods to add to my collection on my travels. I am always on the look out for other high quality, affordable goods. I look forward to meeting you, and hope you enjoy and feel inclined to like or follow The Textile Treasury on Facebook.
Very best wishes,
Charlotte Burroughs
Sabra silk is made from the unusual Sabre - cactus silk. This silk is also known as Agave or vegetable silk. The fibres once collected from the plant, are spun and then woven to make silk thread. The thread is then dyed in different colours. The coloured thread is then hand loomed in Morocco, by Fairtrade craftsmen who have learned their trade from generations of artisans. Each throw is unique and no two throws are the same. They may look similar but there will be differences in the combination of colours used to create each throw. To keep the sabre silk threads in place, chenille velvet is often used between the threads or stripes of threads.
I have the facility to have curtains or cushions made if required. I have a wide variety of colours and thicknesses of fabric. The throws displayed on the site are examples of the stock I hold.
If you provide me with the colour scheme you are working with, I can send you photos of examples of the throws I have currently in stock. If you have any further questions or requirements please let me know.
Although the fabric is silk it can still be machine washed at 30 degrees or if you prefer dry cleaned.
The fabric is beautiful and very versatile. The throws can be used as they are to cover a bed, settee or arm chair, or can be used as wall hangings.
Get in touch to discuss your requirements:
The Wool that is used to create the Mongolian Yak throws, shawls and scarves, comes from the Yak. The Wool is collected by nomadic herders in the spring, when the cattle naturally shed their coat. It is cleaned and then dyed with natural vegetable dyes.
The throws and scarves feels as soft as Cashmere and are as warm as Merino wool.
The Yak products come in the most beautiful colours, which can be seen in the photos.
I have most in stock but if the colour you require is out of stock at the time I will advise you. I will endeavour to source your requirements as soon as possible.
If you have any questions about these amazing products, please do not hesitate to ask.
The Yak throws are usually 120cms x 250 cms
The Yak Scarves are usually 30 cms x 140 cms
I also stock a range of other items (see my gallery below), why not come and visit my stall at our next event.
My journey through life has enabled me to experience and benefit from travel to different countries. This has enriched my vocabulary of possibilities of synchronising colours and textures. This has led me to wanting to make these tastes of luxury and exotics accessible and affordable to the public.
Through research and exploration I have met different merchandisers, craftsman and artisans, and have sourced and purchased my stock. These sources are all Fairtrade and independent traders with ethical backgrounds.
From these dreams, heartfelt intent and developmental footsteps I have created The Textile Treasury. I hope you like and enjoy it.
